Set in 1950s New York, West Side Story tells the story of two rival gangs. On the one hand, there are the local Jets, who want to defend their territory at all costs. Their rivals are the Sharks, immigrant Puerto Ricans who also want to stake their claim in the streets of the city.
But when Jets member Tony (Ansel Elgort) falls in love with Maria (Rachel Zegler), the sister of Sharks leader Bernardo (David Alvarez), the tense situation escalates and soon there are casualties on both sides of the opposing gangs to mourn. Will the two lovers still be able to fall into each other's arms in the end? Or will their backgrounds force them to live apart forever?

The 1957 musical West Side Story was written by Arthur Laurents, while Leonard Bernstein contributed the compositions and Stephen Sondheim the vocal lyrics. The original idea was the brainchild of choreographer Jerome Robbins and was titled East Side Story.
